Thursday, May 17
Thursday was spent with Anna's parents, sightseeing in and around Scauri, where she was born and lived until five years of age. Lunch was a small picnic on the beach, and the rest of the images are some of the area towns.
The evening was the traditional wedding serenade. Traditional for Italy. The deal is once the bride is asleep, the groom serenades her from outside her window. It's got the same level of surprise as a bridal or wedding shower in America, you have an idea it's coming, but at the same time you usually aren't really sure if it's going to happen or not, or when.
Forty or Fifty people meet both at the grooms house, or later on the way over in the town square. Thirty or forty cars caravan to the brides house, then the accordion and guitar start, the singing wakes the bride, she's all embarrassed because she's got fifty people in her front yard and just woke up, and a three or four hour party ensues.
The nighttime pictures are of the serenade, the bride was surprised by it, she had been sleeping and really didn't think it would happen.
