Friday May 11
Friday we made the drive from Venice to San Gimagano, driving to Florence on the highways, then telling TomTom not to use the highways the rest of the way. By doing so, we visited many of the most beautiful towns in the Chianti Region. We stopped in Greve in Chianti, Radda, and the most wonderful village of Panzano, and lots of other places in the pictures below.
After arriving in San Gimigano and parking outside the wall, we checked into L'antico Pozzo, a wonderful little place in the heart of the old town. We did a bit of sight seeing, watched all the tourists act like sheep and all leave around seven, leaving the city to the people staying for the night.
Dinner was at Dorando, considered the best restaurant in San Gimagano by several of the guide books, a well deserved reputation. It was in the basement of a 12th century palazzo, including a great Vino Nobile La Casella.
